Deck the halls with boughs of holly, fa la la la la la la la la! So excited to finally share my 2020 Christmas Home Decor Tour with you! I have been working on DIYs and all things decorating for a few weeks now (because… kids) and I love how my vision has come together. I wanted this years Christmas decor to consist of a classy mix of metallics, subtle pops of color, lots of neutrals throughout and some simple boho touches. I will try to let the pictures do most of the talking in this blog as I take you guys from room to room in our house. I will also link any decor items that are from this year and still available in case you see anything you want to add to your own Holiday decor. Now let’s get on with the tour!
Entryway
Starting with the entryway, the first thing you see when you walk through the front door. I love that this space features our wooden nativity scene, a daily reminder for me of what this season is truly about, along with a few decorative trees. I have been collecting Christmas trees ever since Derek and I have been married and I love the variety I have accumulated over the years. I love collecting decorative trees because they are usually not very expensive and there are always so many options to choose from each year. I also added a fun countdown garland from Opal House to bring out a little pop of color amongst all the neutrals.
The Christmas Tree
Once you have walked through the front door, if you look to your left you will enter our den which is home to our Christmas tree during the holidays. I’ll admit, our house does not have the perfect, ideal place for a tree. I would so much prefer it be in our main living area, but at least you are able to see it from most corners of the downstairs and from our front window if your walking or driving by.
Although the theme for my tree changed this year, I will always find a way to incorporate the special ornaments that we have been gifted or have collected to represent different milestones in our lives. These ornaments represent our wedding, purchasing our first home, our babies’ first Christmas, etc. This year I added the camera ornament as a representation of me finally starting my blog and I surprised Derek with an ornament representing a huge milestone he hit with his business this year!
Sidenote: I have been wanting to do these painted arches in my office for a while now and having a cute backdrop for the Christmas tree really motivated me to finally get it done! My inspiration for the arches came from Bonnie Stone, a fellow momma blogger. She has a highlight on her instagram (@haveakidtheysaid) with a step by step on how to do it if you are interested in painting an arch or two yourself!
Living Room
Next up is our living room. My favorite part of this room to decorate is the free floating wooden shelves. You will see a lot of my tree collection displayed here along with some holiday letter boards, DIY festive signs, and a few family pictures. I prefer to decorate these shelves over my mantle because we have our TV mounted above our fire place, something I will definitely consider changing if I get the opportunity to in our next house! The rose gold Merry Christmas garland, I have had for a few years now and I needed to add in my subtle pop of color to this area so I attached the colorful light bulb ornaments to the garland along with the neutral tassels that you see. I love how it turned out, making something I’ve used for years seem brand new!
Kitchen & Dinning
To the right of our living room, we have our dinning area leading into the kitchen. This year I added the tall candle sticks to the center of our table, along with some greenery. I also sprinkled in those same light bulb ornaments from the merry Christmas garland and I just love how elegantly it all came together. Another feature worth mentioning is the the record player on our bar cart. My husband and I have an Alabama Christmas record that we play on repeat from December 1st on. It’s a tradition that we have adopted from his childhood so I wanted to make sure that we had the record player front and center for all the festivities. My next favorite area in this space is the mini hot cocoa bar. The tinsel tree from target sums up all the vibes I wanted this Christmas and the festive blush and forest green mugs really brought together this little fun area of the kitchen. I can also see this being a fun activity for the kids to pick out their hot cocoa flavor and then get bundled up on the couch for a Christmas movie. Ekkk, I can’t wait!
Kid's Spaces
Moving upstairs, we have the kid’s playroom and the kid’s rooms. I wanted to keep their loft cheery and fun, so anything bright, colorful and festive is in this room. My favorite part is the little village I put together with various houses and bright bottle brush trees. It makes the room feel so magical, especially when they light up at night! We also have a kids tree (not pictured) in the loft that I was gifted from my Grandma but we are waiting until December to decorate that one as a family. I am super particular about decorating our downstairs Christmas tree and I overanalyze where to put each and every ornament way more than I should. So I am glad we have decided to make the kids tree the one that we all decorate as a family! I also did mini trees for each of the kids rooms, just to add a little extra holiday cheer. Their tree’s match the themes of their rooms with the llamas and Toy Story.
Master Bedroom
Down to the end of the hallway is the master bedroom on your left. This is the first year I have decorated our bedroom and honestly it was because we took a few of our holiday pictures on our bed in our matching Christmas pajamas this year. But I love the small touches of Christmas with the wreath above the bed and even our own midi tree. I moved the advent calendar that Derek and I do together (more on what we do in the next blog) in our room as well.
Stairs & Hallway
Last but not least, we have the stairs and upstairs hallway. I didn’t realize we still hadn’t done anything to our upstairs hallways, even after 3 years of living here so my DIY self started brainstorming ways to spruce it up for the holidays. I added my Boho, Merry & Bright Wall Decor above the window over my stairs and I hung a Copper Christmas Tree that you see at the end of the hallway.
