Roses are red, violets are blue, I made a few Valentine’s Day DIYs and you can, too! In this post I’ll be sharing not 1, not 2, but 4 Valentine’s Day decor ideas all inspired by the classic conversation sweetheart candy. You will find everything you’ll need to make each project linked below, the step by step tutorials for each and of course lots and lots of pictures! I’ll also be showing you how I incorporated each DIY into my Valentine’s Day decor in my home, along with a few new decorative pieces I bought for the holiday. I truly hope you enjoy this one, now let’s get crafty!

Boho Conversation Heart Garland

What You’ll Need:

Colorful Felt
Red Iron On Vinyl
Heart Stencil
Pillow Stuffing
Wood Bead Garland or Twine
Thread for Sewing

Step 1:

Use your heart stencil to trace heart shapes onto your felt and then cut them out. I used a cardboard heartbox as my stencil. I wanted 14 hearts so I traced and cut out 28 total in a variety of “sweetheart” colors.

Step 2:

Cut out your conversation heart sayings on the red iron on vinyl using your Cricut. Remember to turn on the mirror setting.

Once they are cut you will then iron your sayings onto your felt. I went letter by letter, placing a towel over the letter before applying the iron. This step took me the longest.

Step 3:

Now you should have half of your hearts with sayings (front) and half without (back). Line up the front and back felt hearts and pin them together to prep for sewing.

Sew each of the hearts together. I just followed along the edge of the heart, stopping when I had about 2 inches left to be able to put the stuffing in.

Step 4:

Stuff your hearts lightly with the pillow stuffing. I went light on the stuffing because I wanted to be able to place them back on the sewing machine to finish them up vs. hand sewing.

Once they are stuffed place them back on the sewing machine to close them up. Try to line up the needle to your previous stitching as best as possible. I did a back stitch at the beginning and the end to secure it.

Step 5:

Now you will want to clean them up a bit. I cut off any hanging threads and cut the extra felt around the stitching to make the edges as straight and clean as possible.

Attach your hearts to the wood beaded garland using a hot glue gun. I attached one point of the heart in front and on point of the heart in back so that you can see more of the wooden beads.

Step 6:

I intended on using twine for this part but as I was putting Christmas stuff away I got the idea to use the wood beaded garland that I had on my Christmas tree. Twine or any ribbon you have will work great as well!

Conversation Heart Wall Decor

What You’ll Need:

Construction Paper
Wooden Board or Canvas
Stickers or Red Vinyl
Glue

Shop everything you’ll need here.

Step 1:

Cut out hearts from the construction paper. I had a heart hole punch so I used that but you can also use a stencil and scissors.

Step 2:

If you are using a Cricut, customize and cut out your heart sayings on the red vinyl. If you do not have a Cricut you can easily use alphabet stickers instead.

Step 3:

Glue the hearts to your wood board or canvas using glue or a glue stick. I arranged the hearts in 5 rows of 4.

Step 2:

Once the paint dries reassemble the ornaments and place the stickers on outside of the hearts. If you are using a Cricut you will need to customize and cut your sayings on your red vinyl first.

Step 3:

Fill your vase. I used both these hearts and glitter pom poms I had left over from Christmas.

Conversation Heart Macramé

What you’ll need:

Neutral Wool Yarn
“Sweetheart” Colored Wool Yarn
Twine
Copper Pole & End Caps
Copper Couplings or Beads
Conversation Heart Candies (optional)

Shop everything you’ll need here.

Step 1:

Cut strands of neutral yarn all the same length. Make sure to double the desired length of your macramé. Also cut strands of colored yarn all the same length. You’ll want these slightly bigger than the size of your heart.

*Cut copper pipe with saw if needed and add end caps, mine was already cut.

Step 2:

Attach neutral yarn to copper pipe using Lark’s Head Knot. I used two pieces of yarn per knot. Repeat until a least half of your copper pipe is covered. You can always add more at the end if you need to.

Step 3:

Starting in the middle grab 6 single neutral strands total and one loose colored strand. Tie them together in a knot. You will continue to add the colored strands and tie knots altering the height of each to make a heart shape.

*You can totally ditch the colored yarn here if you want a more neutral look.

Step 4:

Thread your yarn through the copper couplings and place one over each of your knots. Adjust any of the knots if the shape of your heart looks off once you get the couplings on. I completed one entire side of the heart first. Then it was super easy to match the second half.

Step 5:

Cut off the tails of the colored yarn so the colors only show in the middle of the heart. Clean up the bottom and cut the yarn to the desired length.

Step 6:

Attach twine securely to each side of the copper pole to hang. Cut off excess twine.

*I loosely attached the twine before I started so I could work on this hanging on the wall, which you may also find easier.

Valentine's Day Home Decor

Now it’s time to see it all come together! This is my first year decorating for Valentine’s Day so I kept it pretty simple, adding just a few decorative pillows, candy in jars and some decorative hearts. I love how the few things I bought work well with my everyday home decor and the new DIYs from this post.

I love how my basket feature wall looks with a little touch of Valentine’s Day.

Letter boards are another great way to mix things up from holiday to holiday.

There you have it, four simple DIYs to decorate your home for Valentine’s Day! I would love to hear your favorite of the four in the comments below. If you have questions on where anything else is from, please don’t hesitate to ask. Thanks so much for reading!
