We are officially in the start of fall and only days from October, which can only mean one thing.. time to release the bats and start getting spooky! In years past, I have typically gone more fall vibes when it comes to home decor but this year I shifted gears and went all out on Halloween. Think all the classic Halloween staples: pumpkins, spiders, skeletons, ghosts, bats. Then add in pinks, some dried floral, retro touches and that’s where we landed this year. I’m loving the spooky cute Halloween vibes and I’m so excited to share each space with you. In this post I’ll be taking you room by room, sharing simple DIYs throughout and showing you how each space came together. If you see something you love, I left links for everything I could throughout the blog. Now time for the spooky cute Halloween decor, let’s go ghouls!

Simple DIYs
to add to your spooky cute spaces
tie dye ghosts
Loving the look of these tie dye ghosts for the perfect spooky cute touch to a classic. Super simple to achieve, just follow these steps:
1. Tie up all the material of the ghost in a top knot. I did this loosely just to get small amounts of white to show through.
2. Follow instructions on your Rit dye. For the orange I added tangerine Rit and a splash of coral Rot with a little bit of vinegar to the hot water. For the pink I used petal pink Rit with a splash of rose quartz Rit. I also went back later and did a few straight coral ghosts and I LOVE the color that made.
3. Let the mixture sit for at least an hour before rinsing. Let dry and omg they are so spooky cute!
Thank you to the tie dye queen, April for sharing this, giving me the confidence to go for it! I was super skeptical that this wouldn’t work on the material of the ghosts but it for sure does. Highly recommend this my friends!
fall-oween throw pillows
I had the hardest time finding pillows that I loved this year. They were either to spooky or fall vibes so I decided to make my own. These halloween pillows came out better than I ever expected and they were so easy to make. Just follow the simple steps for each below:
1. Boo Pillow: Spray paint your cotton macramé cord the color you wish, spell out boo and attach the cord to the pillow using fabric glue. Allow to dry for 24 hours.
2. Jack O Lantern Pillow: Cut a jack o lantern face using a Cricut onto iron on vinyl and iron on to your pillow. This would have been easier to do on a removable pillow cover but it still worked applying straight onto the pillow, just took a little more time.
3. Checkered Pillow: Cut 2″ squares onto stencil vinyl using either your Cricut or with scissors by hand. Take the cover off of your pillow and place the squares in a checkered pattern onto the pillow cover. I would definitely recommend grabbing a pillow with a removable cover for this one so your pattern is straight. Once you have your stencils on, spray paint the entire pillow with fabric glue. I did 3 coats and could have easily done 4 but I ran out of spray paint. Last step, remove the stencil squares from the cover.
cute cricut cutouts for ordinary household items
Talk about taking things you already own and giving them the perfect festive makeovers. I simply cut out jack o lantern and ghost faces from my Cricut and placed them on items I had around the house. I try to use removable vinyl so I can easily remove for the next season. Some great items to look for: vases, cutting boards, wine glasses, jars, planters, mirrors; anything you can think of really! I even updated this tassel garland to look like ghosts but love that I can remove them and have a great neutral garland for all year round, too.
Letter boards are another great way to decorate from season to season as you can simply update the trendy, cute sayings for each occasion. I also love using jars because you can fill them with anything relative at the time and they make great festive space fillers on shelves. Small skulls, pumpkins, spiders, or candy are all great options for the spooky season.
painted pumpkins
Painting pumpkins can be the key to pulling out the vibe you want in your decor and an easy way to change things up from year to year. For these particular pumpkins we were inspired by the Opalhouse summer vases that I know we all have been eyeing (or have bought). To get the clay look of the vases, I mixed my paint with equal parts baking soda. From there I just matched the colors and the design of the vases as best I could. For the pink I mixed salmon and rosy beige and for the brown/orange color I mixed way to many colors to even mention. If you haven’t used baking soda in your paint before, you want to have a runny peanut butter consistency when mixing it. It is also important to make sure the first coat is completely dry before adding the second coat as the paint can easily peel off if it is still wet.
spooky fall floral in faux clay vases
dried banksia | bunny tails | dried dipsacus thistle | mini palm spears | dried star flower | pumpkin picks (homegoods) | bat pick | pampas grass | dried palm | trick or treat pick
These faux clay vases were a project I did over the summer. You can check out the full tutorial here. I love the fall transformation by simply changing out the florals. This centerpiece really brought out the spooky cute, boho vibes I was going for. All the florals and picks I used are linked above.
wooden word sayings
wooden letters | glitter | wooden base | acrylic paint or spray paint
When decorating my floating shelves and mantel I tend to have a lot of open space toward the front of the shelves so making wooden sayings to fill that space has been the perfect solution for me. I have done this with both resin and wooden letters and I think both have turned out great. For the ‘I put a spell on you saying’ I used wooden letters, painted them white and added some glitter to give it a magical touch. Then I simply hot glued the letters in a straight line to a slim piece of wood for a base.
festive wooden prints
If you are not following Thread Mama on Instagram you need to be! Stacey offers amazing printables for every occasion (and I mean every occasion). It costs just $5/month and you get access to everything she creates and it is so, so worth it! My spaces would not be the same without her prints incorporated in them.
I typically like to print out a few of my favorites on Shutterfly or even just my own printer, frame them and glue on little wooden sayings. ‘Let’s go ghouls’ is my favorite spooky cute saying this season so I definitely wanted to add that into my decor and this was the perfect way to do that.
Another thing I love doing is printing off pictures from previous years so that even our frames throughout our house are in the halloween mood for the season. It’s also a fun way to remember and reminisce on fun traditions from past years.
I put a spell on you canvas
One of the simplest Cricut DIYs with the biggest statement. All you need is canvas material, iron on vinyl and your Cricut! Pick your font and create your saying in your Cricut design space. Cut it out, making sure the shiny plastic part is down and the mirror is on. Then just iron it onto your canvas! Pro tip: don’t leave your iron in one spot too long… can you see the iron mark on mine?! 😉
ghost wall hangings
These ghost hangings made for such a fun collage wall in my entryway and both pieces were inspired by some of my amazing friends on Instagram. The Nue Company released the cutest yin yang ghost clothing sets for kids and that is were the inspiration for this wall hanging came about. I’m also obsessed with the yin yang symbol in general so this was a must for me as part of my Halloween decor this year. The steps are pretty simple, the most challenging being creating the design in Cricut design space. Here’s how I did it:
1. Open up design space and search for a yin yang in images.
2. Once you find one you like, insert the photo and press contour at the bottom right hand corner. When that opens click on the two circles that are typically in a yin yang symbol. This will hide the circles and allow you to insert something new.
3. Go back into images and search for a ghost, choose one with a facial expression that you like. Insert your image and go to contour again and click on the ghost’s body to hide it. You should be left with just the facial expression, or eyes in my case. Duplicate the ghost so you have two.
4. Position the eyes onto the ghost where the circles once were.
5. Lastly, go to color sync at the top right corner and make sure you are cutting the facial expression in one of each of the colors.
6. Once you have your design cut you will iron it onto your canvas layer by layer until your ghost yin yang is formed.
The macramé ghost came as inspiration from my sweet friend Jaime. All you’ll need is a gold hoop, macramé cord and black vinyl or felt. I first cut the macramé strands to the length I wanted and unraveled each of the strands before starting. Then I tied the macramé cord using a lark’s head knot at the top of the hoop. Attach 6-8 strands depending on how full you want your ghost. Lastly attach a vinyl Cricut cutout of a ghost face or cut one out by hand onto felt and glue it on. So simple yet so so cute! Jaime did a few more decorative details to her ghosts so be sure to check her’s out on her Instagram!
Boo, that was a lot to unfold! I am so thankful for the opportunity to share my spooky cute Halloween spaces with you! I would love to hear your favorite space in the comments below!
