Decorating my home over the past couple years has been a slow evolving project of mine and I have loved seeing how my home has transformed. I joke that in my next life I will be an interior decorator because I have enjoyed it so much. I know I am not an expert by any means but I wanted to share where I shop for home decor and what I look for at different stores.

To give you a sense of what I like, I would say that the best way to describe the style of my home is Modern Boho Farmhouse. I love the straight lines and simplicity of the modern style, the bright fun colors of the Boho style and pops of natural wood from the Farmhouse style. You will find a lot of geometric accents, wicker and rattan, and a multitude of cactus plants. I have loved combining different styles to essentially make it my own.

Target

My number one go to place to find home decor is without a doubt, Target. I look for my Boho vibes from their Opal House collection and get a lot of my farmhouse trends from the Magnolia Hearth & Hand line. I also love the simplicity of some of the Threshold items that I have found there. I will be honest and say that Target hasn’t always been my favorite, however, since they have added these brands in particular, it’s just so so so good. As far as what I look for when shopping for home decor at Target… literally everything. I’ve gotten smaller furniture pieces, wall decor, bedding, and everything in between. I also highly recommend signing up for the Target Red Card. It took me 3 years to finally be convinced by one of the cashiers but it’s honestly just free money if you shop there is much as I do. There’s essentially no risk either with their new debit card option.

HomeGoods

My second favorite store for home decor is HomeGoods. I love that when you walk into a HomeGoods, you never know what you are going to find, making each trip super unique. Pre-kids, my twin sister and I had both just bought our homes and we ventured to 6 different HomeGoods in a single day. We were able to find something different that we liked in every one. I’ve had the best luck finding faux plants, rugs, cute storage baskets and shelf fillers when shopping there. You do have to be persistent when shopping at HomeGoods because hot items go quick as there isn’t as much inventory compared to other stores. My advice is to find out when your local HomeGoods gets their biggest trucks in and try to go on that day.

Living Spaces

After excitedly walking into multiple furniture stores and leaving 5 minutes later discouraged, I finally found number 3 on my list, Living Spaces. I knew this was where we were going to buy the majority of our bigger furniture the second I walked in. It was the only furniture store I went in to that was up to date with the modern, farmhouse styles. We got our couches, dining table, dining chairs, entry table, like I said, all of the big pieces. They also make it really easy to buy, offering 0% interest. That was a huge help for us after just purchasing a home.

World Market

Fourth on the list, World Market. I love the uniqueness of this store. Everything you find looks handcrafted in the best way. I look here first when it comes to faux cactus plants and anything outdoor. I also love their collection of throw pillows (and we all know you can never have too many throw pillows). It does help tremendously to sign up for their free perks program as World Market can be on the spendy side.

Ikea

Fifth, Ikea. I love Ikea because it is very affordable. We did a huge haul here when we first moved in. The prices made it easy to fill all the empty rooms in the house. Rooms you don’t want to leave empty but don’t want to spend a fortune to decorate either. They have recently added a lot of boho style along with their typical modern style so its right up my alley. I found a lot of my decorative lighting here, as well as furniture for our loft and some decorative storage items. Most recently I found picture frames, some great wicker baskets for around the house and their prices on blackout curtains can not be beat. Keep in mind, you will have to build any furniture you buy from Ikea, but it beats having a bunch of empty rooms!

West Elm

Last but definitely, definitely, not least… West Elm. I love love love all the modern retro vibes that you will find at West Elm. If I could snap my fingers and my house look like a West Elm catalogue, I’d be in heaven. When we first bought our home, we had a much tighter budget so a lot of items I had my eye on were simply out of the question BUT if you are patient and shop their sales you can get anywhere from 25-40% and you’re in business. The main thing we ended up getting from here was our office furniture and some decorative pillows and throw blankets that I found on clearance at the outlet.

When decorating your home the biggest piece of advice I can give is patience. It won’t happen over night. It takes time to find every piece and a lot of buying it, bringing it home and not loving it after all, but waking up one day and feeling like it’s finally home makes the endless trips to Target and HomeGoods so so worth it.
